Beginners Course

Held three times a year following club gradings, we offer a six week course to NEW students. You will be taught basics and kata, following which, there is an optional grading for attendees.

Who Are We?

At Tairyoku Shotokan Karate Club, we teach and practice JKA Shotokan karate, the most original style of karate that's taught professionally and academically. Shotokan karate is known for its linear movements and long, deep stances. Its emphasis is on mastering specific techniques. The aim of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) which has headquarters in Japan, has members spanning over 100 countries is the promotion of karate and its benefits and values throughout the world. JKA England is a nationwide organisation for the development, teaching and promotion of authentic JKA karate in England whose Chief Instructor is Yoshinobu OHTA 7th DAN JKA. Ohta Sensei is a graduate of Takushoku University and has also attended the famous Instructors Classes at JKA Headquarters in Japan. From 1982-2003 Ohta Sensei was the assistant to Keinosuke Enoeda, 9th Dan

The Club

Our Club Instructors are qualified and EKF approved, First Aid trained and have CRB enhanced certification. With eight regular dojo's and five school dojos throughout Buckinghamshire in which you can train. We accept students of all ages from 5 years +, whether you are a complete novice or experienced karateka / Martial artist from another Association or style. Throughout the year we also hold six week courses for Beginners. We are involved in an Extended Schools Programme (ESP) with the JKAE which provides the opportunity for children to try karate within their school environment at a fraction of the normal cost. They are then at liberty to join a regular dojo and progress in the normal manner. Currently we have 5 schools participating in the ESP located in Aylesbury, Aston Clinton, Drayton Parslow/Swanbourne, Wendover and Buckingham.

First Time?

If you are attending one of our Dojo's for the first time, here is some information you may like to know:

Your first lesson is FREE!
You have the choice of going to Beginners Only courses held periodically in the year.
New students are welcome to join the club at anytime - we have a 'rolling' agenda.
Please arrive 15 minutes or so before the start of classes so that your details can be taken.
Appropriate clothing for your first few lessons: Tracksuit bottoms and a T-Shirt.
You must be 5 years + to join
Tell the Instructor before you train of any injuries or disabilities. In most cases this will not preclude you from training
Lessons are paid for on a monthly basis.
Check the start times of classes by going to the TRAINING category on the menu and then TIMES
Despite the fact we are open all year long, due to unforseen circumstances i.e. previous / alternative hall hirings, personal committments etc, training may be cancelled.

There is no need to inform the Club Instructor if you are coming but it is preferable.

We have an extremely strong social outlook too partaking in Camping; Cinema trips; Paintballing; BBQ's and Geocaching amongst many other activities. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
